Phillip J. Zwier, O.D.

Dr. Zwier received his Bachelor of Science degree from Calvin College and graduated Magna Cum Laude from the Illinois College of Optometry.

His Therapeutic Certification was completed at Ferris State College of Optometry.

Dr. Zwier has been with Hiemstra Optical for over twenty years.

Lana K. Gruizenga, O.D.

Dr. Gruizenga grew up in the Kalamazoo area attending Western Michigan University, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude with a degree in Biomedical Sciences.

In 1990, she graduated from Indiana University School of Optometry and received the John P. Davy Memorial Award. Dr. Gruizenga began practicing at Hiemstra Optical later that year.

Grant Morrison, O.D.

Dr. Morrison earned his Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Optometry degrees from Indiana University.

While at university, he did volunteer work in rural Mexico and received the Essilor Award for outstanding academic achievement.

Dr. Morrison is a native of Kalamazoo and has been practicing in the area since 1999. He has been with Hiemstra Optical since 2001.

Peter S. Caroselli, O.D.

Dr. Caroselli received his Bachelor of Science degree with honors from Ferris State University, and Doctor of Optometry degree with honors from Michigan College of Optometry in 1997.

He has been practicing optometry at Hiemstra Optical since 2001.

Lauren Collins, O.D.

Dr. Collins earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Ferris State University.  She went on to receive her Doctor of Optometry degree from Pacific University in Portland, OR.

Dr. Collins joined Hiemstra Optical in September of 2014.

Emily Schwengel, O.D.

Dr. Emily graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelors of Science degree in Biology from Graceland University. She received her Doctor of Optometry with honors from Indiana University in 2007.

She joined Hiemstra Optical in 2016.

Gina Ford, O.D.

Dr. Gina Ford received a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Biology from Ferris State University. She went on to graduate from the Michigan College of Optometry at Ferris State University. Dr. Ford completed her residency in ocular disease with TLC Eyecare of Michigan and is an American Board of Optometry diplomate.

Dr. Ford has been practicing in the Kalamazoo area for twenty years, providing primary eye care exams, contact lens evaluations, pre and post operative refractive surgery care and diabetic ocular health exams. Dr. Ford strives to provide quality, comprehensive eye care in a friendly and caring environment.

Teresa Beelen, O.D.

Dr. Beelen received her Optometry Doctorate from the InterAmerican University of Puerto Rico School of Optometry in Hato Rey, Puerto Rico, United States.

She has vast experience in the optometric field. She specializes in primary care optometry, comprehensive eye exams, prescribed eyeglasses and contact lenses. Dr. Beelen joined the Hiemstra Optical team in June 2024.

Amy Bell, O.D.

Amy Bell is a dedicated optometrist with a Doctor of Optometry degree from the Michigan College of Optometry and a Bachelor of Vision Science from Ferris State University.

Outside of clinical practice, Dr. Bell is passionate about research, education, and community service. She has presented research on amblyopia follow-up care, is active in professional organizations like the American Optometric Association, and volunteers to support low-vision services. She currently resides in Kalamazoo, MI, where she continues to serve her community.

Philip Pelton, O.D.

Dr. Pelton is a dedicated optometrist providing comprehensive primary eye care at Hiemstra's Portage and Plainwell locations. A graduate of Ferris State University with a Bachelor's in Vision Science, he earned his Doctor of Optometry from the Michigan College of Optometry at Ferris State University in 2021.

Dr. Pelton is a member of the Michigan Optometric Association and the American Optometric Association. When not caring for patients, he enjoys golfing, hiking, and spending time with his wife and dog.

Kunjal Patel, O.D.

Dr. Patel is an emerging optometrist who completed her Doctor of Optometry degree at the Michigan College of Optometry and holds a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Laboratory Science from Michigan State University, equipping her with a strong biomedical foundation to complement their clinical training.

Committed to community service, Dr. Patel has volunteered at the Detroit Capuchin Soup Kitchen and the Detroit Men's Health Event, providing free eye care to underserved populations. Her experience spans managing a diverse patient demographic, from pediatric to geriatric patients, in fast-paced and demanding clinical environments.
